Definition
Jury selection — the questioning of prospective jurors to uncover bias and decide who will sit on the jury. It is the first, and sometimes the most important, part of a trial.
Hypothetical
In a DWI trial, defense counsel asks the panel who has had a family member hurt by a drunk driver. Several jurors raise their hands, revealing a bias that lets counsel seek their removal before the trial begins.
